One Computer Index and All Computer Search
Index Your Files is a small and speedy way of sharing your computer indexes. Although useful for a single computer , it works on a LAN.
It is easy to create an index for the whole computer, or just for a single large directory. It is not necessary to index directories which are not of interest, such as the data files which make Windows work. Only the useful directories need to be indexed.
Example: One computer can index all the drives , both local and network, and share the database with other computers in the network.
How to Share A Single Database on a Network
You can install IYF in a networked computer and index all the lan.
For example:
Peter's Computer
Installed IYF in C:\IYF
Index all network
Sharing the folder with others on the net from C:\IYF\
After, installing IYF in all the computers of the net, and by means of the button [Shared Database - Main Path] , the data files [indexes] can be used by anyone, although there is only a single copy.
For example:
Helen's Computer :
Click button [Shared Database - Main Path]
type \\Peter\IYF\ or locate via GUI
Reinitiate IYF
IYF will then look for the databases in the path (\\Peter\IYF\)
Result: Everybody of the net can look for all of the net's files rapidly.
Creation Of A CD That is Searchable
Suppose you are creating a backup CD , then if you create an index first, and include a copy of IYF on the CD, then the program will work directly on the CD. This has many uses for the creation of parts catalogs, supply lists, pictures, personal use, and many more examples where large quantities of data may be searched on CD.
One users has used it to create a searchable CD of nearly 6000 of the 20.000 Birds of the World, for example. This CD has .pdf, picture data, .html, .doc, and other types of files, and all can be viewed directly within Index Your Files.
